With his uncompromising delivery and courageous approach to taboos, Al Prodgers is often labeled as a “dangerous” comic. Although he’s just as hysterical when musing whimsically about drug-sniffer dogs or bemoaning his timely receding hairline.

His natural ability to read a crowds mood and in turn adapt leaves no room for doubt as to why his incisive, intelligent wit is as popular with ultra-conservative grannies as it is with hardcore student types. His incredible  versatility and adaptive humour has helped cement him as a sought-after talent in just under six years – Al ditched “serious” acting for stand-up comedy in 1996. Since that time, he has become a regular performer in the SMIRNOFF INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL, has pulled-off two highly successful solo shows at the GRAHAMSTOWN FESTIVAL, and has appeared on many television stand-up shows, including THE BARRY HILTON SHOW and COMEDY SHOWCASE.

Al is also a popular regular on the club and corporate circuit, having performed as far afield as Windhoek, Namibia. His fiery intelligence makes him one of the hottest players in the improvised comedy sensation, IMPROV EXPRESS, which is completely made up at every show.

Al is a major feature on the comedy club circuit throughout SA and Namibia, and has ventured to Dubai with fellow "laughter-professionals" John Vlismas and Riaad Moosa. Prodgers was selected as South Africa’s ambassador to the 2007 Yuk-Yuks International comedy competition, while being the only entrant not from North America to make it to the final round.

When American comedian, STEVE WRIGHT toured South Africa in 1999, Al was the obvious choice to open for him, with a crowd of 2000 people in Cape Town, Al set the standard for South African comedy. Steamy and challenging, he will always be a favorite with those who want to see a real razor-sharp mind running in overdrive!
