As one of the hardest working comedians in South Africa, and definitely one of the funniest, Alan Committie is in constant demand. With his wit comes his razor sharp mind and surprisingly extensive  general knowledge including  a deep understanding of the nuances of being human. Alan is one of the rare natural comedians who can convert any statement, question or answer into comedy.

Alan is a stand-up comic, character comedian, actor,  writer, producer, director, MC and a part-time (fully qualified) high school teacher. While travelling around South Africa he is most well known for his comic one-man shows: TV or not TV, The Clown Jewels (parts I and II), Titanic on Ice and Dick and Di. A performer at the Stand Up South Africa Comedy festival in London in 2002, he was also a part of all the Smirnoff International Comedy Festivals (Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg) between 1997 and 2003. Currently, he is most familiar as Laugh Out Loud’s Johan van der Walt, and is filling the boots of Tim Plewman for the new run of Defending the Caveman.

He has been recognized by his peers in being nominated for the Vita Award in three categories – best original script, best comic actor and best supporting actor. 

Locked deep in his comedic wardrobe lie some strange, surprising and silly characters. You wont ever forget the Committie take on Mr. Bean, John Revolta and Austin Powers or his own alter-egos like Johann van der Walt, the hobo, the mad professor, the hippie, the insane motivational speaker and the drunken waiter.

Alan can currently be seen on MNET's comedy hoax show Laugh out Loud, where he has a weekly rant and rave under the disguise of his alter ego: Johan van der Walt! With various appearances in TV adverts including FAMSA, Polo Classic, OK Bazaars, Castle Lager and Cadbury's. He has also starred in cameo roles on many SA sitcoms and was one of the friends in the comedy sketch show MARC LOTTERING AND FRIENDS.
