More on Tumi Morake....
Tumi’s first stand-up performance was scripted
material for corporate events. She later went on to
perform at the Rotaract charity event “Best
Medicine” in the 2003 and 2004. Since then, she has
been booked for regular spots at different club
venues around Gauteng.
Big comedy events include Have A Heart for Child
Welfare, Woodstock 2006, Arts Alive (2006 and 2007),
Women In Arts (2007), Tshwane Comedy Festival, Just
Bcoz Comedy fest, King Size Comedy and Blacks
Only.Tumi’s comedy has been described as in your
face and slightly provocative. This is her first
venture onto the comedy festival circuit in Cape
Town.

Her comedy acting began in the student production of
Shakespeare’s 12th Night were she played Feste, the
clown. She’s worked on a number of theatre
productions in lead roles, such as Another Child and
1\4 Life Crisis (both at the Grahamstown Arts
Fest’), Maru at the Windybrow theatre, and Is this
Africa, which was presented at the FNB Dance
Umbrella and the African Dance Festival in Paris in
2006. She now works mainly in Industrial and
educational theatre projects, among other things.
Her acting and writing career have now been heavily
steered away from theatre and into television. TV
credits include the support role of Pabi in Soul
Buddies, SABC1, and the lead Millicent in Izoso
Connection, SABC1. She is also credited as a writer
in Izoso Connection. She’s also had cameo
appearances in the flagship shows Justice For All,
Nomzamo and City Ses’la. She is also among the team
of writers for Nomzamo, an SABC sitcom going into
its second season this year, and For Sale, a comedy
drama on SABC3 in 2007. Also won the ‘Multichoice
Vuka!’ Award for writing in the 30 second short film
category in 2006.
