About Wazi Kunene
Wazi M Kunene is a multifaceted South African artist celebrated for her talents in standup comedy, acting, voice-over artistry, and writing. Hailing from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal, Wazi pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at Rhodes University before fearlessly stepping into the creative arts. Since the beginning of her standup comedy journey in 2018, she has captivated audiences with her unique comedic flair and impressive performances.
In 2021, Wazi debuted her standup comedy special, "Dawn," and has since toured across South Africa and internationally. She is also the visionary behind the popular "Women Who Kill" comedy showcase, which has graced numerous theaters and festivals. Her trailblazing efforts earned her the distinction of being the first woman to win the Newcomer award at the prestigious Savanna Comics Choice Awards in 2023.
Wazi's presence in the comedy scene continues to grow with her viral social media sketches, voice-overs for brands like Castle Lager, and her work as an MC for brands such as Avbob. She's appeared on TV shows like "Entangled" and performed in comedy sets on "Funny People SA." Additionally, she has contributed as a writer to "Comedy Central's Roast of Minnie Dlamini" and the satirical "Makwerekwere News." Wazi is also a part of the rising comedy podcast "Censored-ish."
